As part of the ongoing work related to the pollination limitation experiment in sunflower, a research visit was held at NINA in Oslo, where BIOS team members, Maja Knežević and Branislav Pejak were hosted by Markus Sydenham and Hedda Ørbæk. The visit focused on the first analyses of data collected during the 2025 field campaign across 10 sunflower fields in Vojvodina, where pollinator activity, crop production, and vegetation across different habitat types were monitored.
Over five days, the team worked on data preparation, exploratory analyses, and the development of initial modelling approaches. These efforts mark an important step toward building indicators for pollination service delivery and pollinator diversity in agricultural landscapes.
The visit also laid the foundation for two upcoming scientific publications addressing (i) the influence of habitat availability on sunflower pollination, and (ii) the role of different habitat types in supporting pollinator diversity.
The work continues in the summer of 2026, with the second iteration of the experiment, after which the final results will be ready for scientific publications and the finalization of the SONATA spatial tool.
