BIOS Research Visit to the University of Oviedo

During a one-month research visit by BIOS colleagues to the University of Oviedo, hosted by IMIB, our collaboration evolved both scientifically and personally. Over the course of the visit, we jointly shaped the conceptual foundation for three research papers and designed a pipeline of indicators to be further developed within the SONATA project, with a particular focus on open grassland habitats. In parallel, we worked closely on preparing a joint project proposal, strengthening both ideas and partnerships.

The exchange was not limited to the office. Fieldwork along the Atlantic coast near Gijón offered a shared experience sampling Pinus pinaster needles in a unique coastal environment, deepening our understanding of local ecosystems as we worked side by side. Just as importantly, informal moments—sharing local seafood such as shellfish and tasting traditional Asturian cider—created space for open discussion, trust, and new ideas.

This combination of joint research, field experience, and cultural exchange made the visit especially valuable, reinforcing collaboration and laying a strong foundation for future work together.
