The second part of the SONATA Workshop on In Situ data collection and management focused on refining in-situ data for habitat and soil mapping. Building upon our previous discussions in part I of the workshop, we concentrated on enhancing data accuracy and integration to improve ecosystem monitoring and modeling. This Workshop in the form of live training was organized by our colleagues from UNIOVI – Jose Manuel Álvarez Martínez, Ana Silió-Calzada, Gonzalo Hernández Romero, as well as Jetse Stoorvogel, an expert from Integrated Environmental Modelling at the Open University of the Netherlands.
Goal of the Workshop was to strengthen methodologies for collecting, processing, and validating in-situ observations, ensuring their effective use in digital habitat and soil mapping workflows. In the upcoming field season, building upon the initial Europe-wide Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) maps and soil grid, the habitats will be mapped across Vojvodina. By refining these datasets, we aimed to enhance the reliability of remote sensing applications and predictive models, ultimately supporting more informed decision-making in conservation and land management.
Through collaborative discussions and hands-on exercises, we aligned our approaches with best practices and emerging technologies in environmental monitoring. Active participation and knowledge exchange were encouraged to maximize the impact of our work within the SONATA project and beyond.
