SONATA WP3 Workshop – Nature-based Solutions and Living Lab

The first SONATA face-to-face workshop is completed!

The BioSense Institute was pleased to host our partners from NINA, IH Cantabria, UNIOVI, and VITO. The workshop was organized by our NINA colleagues Leonard Sandin, Tessa Bahiga Bargmann, Berit Köhler, and Hedda Barfod Ørbæk, with speakers from BioSense Institute, VITO, PE Palić-Ludaš, the Regional Center for Environmental Law, IUCN ECARO, and the Center for Experiment in Urban Studies.

The Workshop contained a series of general and specific presentations about topics related to NbS and Living Labs, as well as hands-on exercises with an aim to end in concrete results: 1. A “blueprint” for the SONATA LL including a list of stakeholders that will be involved, 2. A concrete list of NbS in the SONATA case studies, and 3. A plan for the BIOS NbS Team and activities therein. Through collaborative discussions and hands-on exercises, the goal was to align our approaches with best practices in creating Living Labs and involving multiple stakeholders for innovative and sustainable solutions. Active participation and knowledge exchange were encouraged to maximize the impact of our work within the SONATA project and beyond.

The Workshop resulted in a lot of discussions and practical work, with the main questions for the participants being: 1. How will the SONATA NbS case studies look and what are the major problems we are targeting? 2. Who will participate in SONATA’s Living Lab, and what is most important in building trust between key factors?

After two days of insightful discussions and collaboration, participants and the researchers are eager to put their newly gained knowledge into practice in their future work.
