Organized on March 10-11 2025, this workshop successfully brought together researchers and experts to explore habitat mapping and Earth Observation (EO) workflows using openEO. Designed by professionals from SONATA partner institution VITO, and for participants with an IT/programming background, the workshop provided hands-on experience with EO data processing, model inference, and habitat mapping techniques. With expert contributions from Lori Giagnacovo, Victor Verhaert, and Hans Vanrompay, the event served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and technical skill development.
Day 1 – Getting Started with openEO
Participants were introduced to openEO’s core functionalities, learning how to retrieve EO data and apply basic processing workflows. Hands-on exercises focused on data acquisition and model inference.
Day 2 – Habitat Mapping with EO Data
The second session delved into habitat mapping principles, emphasizing the role of in situ data and advanced data processing workflows in openEO. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises related to model training and feature extraction
